The General Education program, the broad-based foundational curriculum for undergraduates, gives students an expansive context for their majors, minors, and concentrations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.ramapo.edu\/quicklinks\/gened#general-education-categories-and-courses1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See the approved General Education courses in the College Catalog.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Goals and Objectives<\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<p>The all-college learning goals and outcomes express what all undergraduate Ramapo students should know or be able to do upon graduation. All undergraduate majors have mapped their goals and outcomes to the all-college goals and outcomes to demonstrate the integration of goals and outcomes at the programmatic and institutional levels.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Explore the world: investigate human cultures and the natural world.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Critically engage with the products of culture, through interpretation or creative expression.<\/li>\n<li>Critically interpret history and society.<\/li>\n<li>Apply methods of scientific inquiry effectively.<\/li>\n<li>Apply mathematical concepts effectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Engage the world: think critically and convey new understanding<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate logic and reasoning skills.<\/li>\n<li>Write effectively in scholarly and creative contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Speak effectively in scholarly and creative contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Develop the skills necessary to locate, evaluate, and employ information effectively.<\/li>\n<li>Use technology to communicate information, manage information, or solve problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Experience your world: integrate and apply your new learning.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to address complex problems.<\/li>\n<li>Practice reflective inter\/intra-personal skills.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in an engaged, experiential activity that connects the course to real world settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expand our world: develop compassion and ethical understanding across cultures and become an engaged global citizen.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Understand diverse communities on local, national, and\/or global levels.<\/li>\n<li>Analyze ethical implications of the global distribution of power and resources.<\/li>\n<li>Question assumptions about individual and group identity.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate intercultural understanding required to effectively negotiate a diverse global society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/fa\/gecco\/\">Explore faculty resources and assessment information for the General Education program.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"collapsableContent\" tabindex=\"0\"><div class=\"collapsableTitle\"><span class=\"fa-stack\"><i class=\"fa fa-circle fa-stack-2x\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-down fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><i class=\"fa fa-chevron-up fa-stack-1x fa-inverse\"><\/i><\/span>Curriculum<\/div><div class=\"c_content\">\n<p>Ramapo students take ten General Education courses: four keystone courses, one course in each of four keystone categories, and one course in two out of three distribution categories.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ramapo.edu\/provost\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/380\/2023\/06\/General-Education-Curriculum-Map-2019-2020.pdf\">View the General Education Curriculum Map<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM KEYSTONE COURSES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take all four of the following courses:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>First Year Seminar<\/li>\n<li>Social Science Inquiry<\/li>\n<li>Critical Reading &amp; Writing 102 (Must be taken within the first 64 credits.)<\/li>\n<li>Studies in the Arts &amp; Humanities<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>KEYSTONE CATEGORIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take one course from each of the following categories:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Global Awareness<\/li>\n<li>Historical Perspectives<\/li>\n<li>Scientific Reasoning<\/li>\n<li>Quantitative Reasoning (Must be taken within the first 64 credits.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>DISTRIBUTION CATEGORIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take one course in two out of the three following categories (At least one course must be offered by a school other than that which houses the student&#8217;s major.):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Culture &amp; Creativity<\/li>\n<li>Systems, Sustainability, &amp; Society<\/li>\n<li>Values &amp; Ethics<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"divider\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/rcnjrd\/images\/icons\/ramapo-arch-icom_rule.png\" alt=\"Ramapo\" \/><\/div>\n<h2>Assessment of Student Learning<\/h2>\n<p>The assessment of student learning, an essential part of the larger assessment of institutional effectiveness, is key to creating a campus culture of investigation and reflection aimed at improving student learning. The systematic assessment\u00a0of student learning continues to push beyond traditional majors.
